Graduate Student

Hometown:
  • Muscle Shoals, Alabama
Education:
  • University of North Alabama BS in Chemistry, BBA in Economics, minor in Mathematics
Joined IRIS:
  • November 2020
Bio:
  • Hi everyone! My name is Brooke and my husband, Chase, and I moved to Tuscaloosa in August of 2020. While I am working on my PhD in Chemistry, Chase is also a PhD student studying Statistics here at UA. In our free time, we enjoy spending time with friends, talking walks/hiking, and traveling. Roll Tide!
Why IRIS?
  • I joined IRIS Lab because of the interesting research area (Alzheimer's Disease) and the opportunity to learn new methods of instrumentation (spectroscopy/microscopy).

Md Hasan Ul Iqbal
Graduate Student

Hometown:
  • Dhaka, Bangladesh
Education:
  • University of Dhaka, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
Joined IRIS:
  • January, 2019
Bio:
  • Hey, I’m Hasan! I love traveling a lot; driving through the scenic beauties of Tennessee and Georgia was one of the best experiences I ever had. I also like to enjoy sports and eat good food from all over the world.
Why IRIS?
  • I always tried to get into a cool experimental lab, which would offer expertise on different analytical techniques, combining with programming skill. IRIS lab was the perfect combination of the both.

  • Hello everyone! I go by "To Leave no stone unturned" Jogging, reading, watching movies and spending time with my loved ones makes me happy. "Work hard, Party harder".
Why IRIS?
  • Spectroscopy always fascinates me! I always wanted to do a kind of research that directly affects the lives of people, and the IRIS lab deals with Alzheimer's Disease along with working with AFM-IR spectroscopy. This combination totally resonates with my interest.

Harrison Edmonds
Graduate Student

Hometown:
  • Weaverville, NC
Education:
  • Western Carolina University, Chemistry
Joined IRIS:
  • November 2021
Bio:
  • Hello, My name is Harrison, during my undergraduate/graduate career at Western Carolina University I worked under Dr. Scott Huffman on mosquito species identification of mosquitoes using infrared spectroscopy. During this project, I adapted and employed a variety of machine learning (ML) techniques and began to learn the power of ML as a research tool. I look forward to having the opportunity to expand on this skill set as I develop (haha) as a member of the IRIS group.
Why IRIS?
  • My background is in infrared spectral analysis and classification using machine learning, so I was familiar with the type of problem the IRIS lab is trying to address. I truly enjoyed my research at Western Carolina University working on somewhat similar problems so the IRIS lab represented an opportunity to leverage my experience and pursue my passion, with a set of research topics that can genuinely help people.

Why IRIS?
  •  I'm interested in IRIS lab because I'd like more experience in spectroscopy and different Analytical techniques. To me, one of the most interesting things about research is the fact that you're able to appreciate all the intricacies of a topic or techniques that at first seems simple.
